San Diego, Travel, Rooftop Cocktails Hotel Republic

When you live in San Diego, it’s easy to forget that this is where everyone is saving up to visit. Instead of heading out for a quick jaunt out, we decided to stay in… town, that is. We were lucky enough to have an invitation to stay over at the Hotel Republic in Downtown San Diego, just outside of Little Italy. With so many events offered all year long, it was not hard to come up with something to do.

Our staycation visit landed on Cinco de Mayo weekend and lucky for us, Clear Channel was hosting its Cinco by the Bay event at the Embarcadero. A quick Uber ride to and from made the Hotel Republic a perfect choice. Happy hour cocktails and bites in the lobby bar were pleasant but the true luxury was taking advantage of the whole reason the world is envious of San Diego, our weather and we soaked it up on the rooftop bar/restaurant, Topside Terrace Kitchen & Bar.

We walked a few blocks north of the hotel for dinner at the raw bar in Ironside Fish & Oyster on India Street in the heart of Little Italy then enjoyed the people watching from the patio of the classic Princess Pub. The night air in May was brisk but still comfortable.

I was up bright and early on Sunday more for a quick 6am yoga session on the rooftop then off to stroll to the harbor to take in the morning vibes in the seaside urban center. One of my favorite things is feeling the energy of the city as its enthusiastic and driven go-getters get their start. I even ran into my friend Yolanda on my coffee stroll. Brunch with live music on the rooftop with mimosas and guacamole & chicharrones was a hit alongside the other brunch bites.

San Diego really is such a sweet little BIG town and it’s a perfect place to re-energize your batteries. I highly recommend it.
