If anyone knows color, you know its the folks over at Pantone. That’s why, when Pantone says “Tangerine Tango” will be the color of the year, you should not take this lightly and quickly gather your things, head for the stores and purchase all things red-orange. On your way home, make sure to also get a mani/pedi donning your suppose-to-be new favorite color. If you’re feeling adventurous (and quite torturous!) also scurry over to your local pet groomer and give you pup a quick hair dye. Grace Coddington, anyone?
Joking aside, the reddish-orange hue I simply call coral (Tangerine Tango sounds so much more fun. It also sounds like a cocktail. Which I’d love.) has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. Same goes for the fashion world. Ever since J.Crew became, you know, cool, they’ve been bombarding our little eyes with bright shades of hot pink (or “Honeysuckle” which was Pantone’s 2011 color of the year), coral and neon. They’re most recent catalog was definitely inspired by this 2012’s shade of the year:
We should have known better though. Ever since Domino published photos of Jenna Lyon’s (J.Crew creative director and quite possibly one of the most cool, stylish woman alive) $4 million dollar Brooklyn brownstone (which she sadly just sold after a nasty split with her long-time artist husband), perfectly adorned with a white and “Tangerine Tango” duvet cover, the coral-shade has spread like wildfire. I’m not complaining though. After a pretty drab winter here in New York, I need color in my life. And Tangerine Tango might just be the match for me.
