Summer Style Tips from stylist, Catherine Bachelier Smith:

My MO is always choose pieces that can be transformed: casual or dressed up. It’s ok to spend double the cost on an article of clothing if you know you’ll get double the wear. The question I always ask myself before buying ANYTHING (expensive or super-sale): “Can I wear it to work, weekend and/or evening?” if I can honestly say yes to two or more of these categories, then it’s in contention.

Summer dresses: color block is still hot. The minimalist shift or feminine ruffle version can go day to night. A well fitted dress can be worn for daytime by adding a chunky wood bangle and coral-esque necklace (envoking beach)
Or a little sparkle at night such as gold hoop earrings and metallic sandle high heels.

Style Note:  Always add a short slip to summer-time inexpensive dresses or skirts (especially jersey) to give a more upscale look. The dress or skirt will skim the body and you avoid showing too much information (I.e. Panty lines, etc.)

Summer shorts: go with tailored shorts with a cuff (also called trouser shorts): prints or solids are equally great. A tailored short can be paired with a fitted tank top and cardigan or easy lightweight blazer worn with sexy flat sandals for a fun casual daytime look.
Or worn with a flowy chiffon top layered over a flirty bandeau and high heeled wedges for a sophisticated night out with your man or girl
friends.

Summer sandals: Update your most worn flat sandals. Chunky gems will add panache to your feet. They can be worn for day or night and even count as jewelry.

Style note: Remember that a pedicure at least every two weeks keep your feet looking polished and smooth. It’s subtly sexy to have well groomed toes and heels.
