This Saturday, August 28th marks the 27th Anniversary of Mission San Luis Rey’s annual fund raising gala, Heritage Ball. This year’s theme, Dancing with the Stars, is certain to bring together a beautiful summer evening surrounded by the beauty of this National Historic Landmark in Oceanside, California.
The event has had a long standing committee of devotees over its nearly 30 year history. This year’s three Co-Chairs consist of one friar, one long time member and a new comer to the group; Brother Kelly Cullen, ofm, Gail DeSalvo & Tanya Gover, respectively. Together with the help of their 12 committee members and many volunteers, the event turns out a splendid cocktail reception, auction, formal dinner, and dancing for nearly 300 attendees amidst the amazing architecture of Mission
San Luis Rey. Just as last year, guests can expect a bountiful array of fresh vegetables and greens directly from the Mission’s own organic gardens. Presiding over the festivities is Father David Gaa, OFM, the newly appointed Executive Director of Mission San Luis Rey.
“Our unique celebration creates lifetime memories and helps the Mission to bring history and spirit to life for generations to come,” says Brother Kelly Cullen, ofm, one of the Franciscan Friars living at Mission San Luis Rey and Co-Chair of the 2010 Heritage Ball.

*The mission recently had a change of leadership as Brother James Lockman, ofm took a sabbatical. He has informed Giving Scene that he should be continuing his gardening workshops shortly and that we can all be on the look out for his new blog chock full of tips and words of wisdom very soon.
