For a long time, Liberty Station was a stagnant, nearly empty set of buildings waiting to explode. That time has arrived. The center has enticed some incredible chefs to join the Point Loma neighborhood in bringing great food and drink to the area.

When Stone Brewing opened the Liberty Station location, it was a welcome venue to bring the family, play some bocce ball, drink great beer and eat well in the beer legend gardens. It has become a venue for events and celebrations for all reasons from individual accomplishments to non-profit fundraisers. Stone livened up the rather sparsely fed commercial center.

MUST HAVE : Spicy Texas Quail Knots

Chef Accursio Lota, alongside Solare owner Randy Smerik, has been quietly perfecting the Italian fare for just over three years. The restaurant itself had been in business well before but the magic happened when Chef Accursio took over the kitchen.

MUST HAVE : Wagyu Beef Carpaccio

If you are looking for a down home, neighborhood place with great craft beer and damn good, house-made meatballs and pie, then Soda & Swine is the place for you. Chef Jason McLeod (from Ironside Fish & Oyster) has been creating great food at the Liberty Station location for nearly 7 months. Their original Soda & Swine is located on Adams Avenue and has been going strong for 3+ years.

MUST HAVE : The Hen Meatballs w/ Crispy Polenta

And now The Patio Group has brought in a big hitter for its newest concept located at Liberty Station, Fireside by the Patio. Chef Antonio Friscia is back with an incredible team (including chef darling, Fern Tran) and it’s all about the open flame. The indoor/outdoor venue includes fire pits, lounge seating and a bohemian flair to complement the global, fire-grilled foods the culinary team has dreamed up to make you drool. The restaurant is set to open to the public next week, March 9th.

MUST HAVE : I’ll let you know next week 😉
