Del Mar Library has been feeding the minds of the young and old alike in the area since 1914. You have seen it. It is the beautiful old powder blue building on the east side of Camino Del Mar with the intricately designed shell wall.
Thanks to a few friends (District 3 Supervisor Pam Slater-Price, the Friends of the Del Mar Library, San Diego County Library, the City of Del Mar, and the Del Mar Farmer’s Market), it will be undergoing a much needed renovation that will include new carpeting (a must), a laptop bar (I’m told it will be against the ocean side window, NICE) additional furnishing updates and more.
In a world of increasing popularity of intangible reading materials, libraries have morphed into more than just a place where books are archived but rather community gathering spaces. We have moved away from the once intimidatingly silenced caverns of books to new bright, spaces with self-serve magic check-out and plenty of hosted community activities. We can’t wait to see what is in store. The renovations are set to be final by March 2013.
