So it’s kinda like a backyard, family BBQ… Hawaiian style. The I Love Poke Fest ruled the sunset on the scene at Bali Hai, May 26th. Entrants from all over Southern California & as far away as Kauai were on deck to show off their mad skills, though the competitive nature of the event was barely noticeable to attendees because the ohana was flowin’.

Some of San Diego’s most recognizable foodies were on hand to peruse the bites and take down the Bali Hai’s famous 3 limit Mai Tais. There were plenty of playing children, dancing, smiling, eating and loving for the water-front event and there was no shortage of perfection all around.

Surprise winner of Ono Yum’s I Love Poke Fest went to South Bay’s Zarlitos from National City who serves up a combo of Mexican & Filipino foods. Second place went to Chef Keoni Simmons of Sushi on a Roll and third place went to Chef Billy Butter of Surfside Cuisine.
If you missed the San Diego event, you can catch some great poke in Orange County on June 28th at the Hilton Waterfront Resort at I Love Poke OC.
