About This Ep. 1
When chefs and restaurateurs in San Diego, like our guest Karen Barnett, think of a fishmonger, there is just one name that comes to mind and that is our guest, Tommy Gomes. Tommy Gomes spent years on tuna fishing fleets and comes from a long line of Portuguese fishermen who made San Diego their home 125 years ago. Now he is the face of Catalina Offshore Products where he is the ambassador of sustainable, fresh seafood internationally touting his famed line, “Good seafood is not cheap and cheap seafood is not good”.
On the opposite side of the food and beverage industry spectrum is a strong, outspoken, female restaurateur who has carved out a niche in the little San Diego neighborhood of University Heights. Small Bar owner Karen Barnett has a long history in the music and bar scene in San Diego but is most well-known for her very small bar, that has a slightly irreverent attitude but remains dedicated to good service and good, hearty affordable food for guests.
