First off… choose your apparel wisely. Personally, I can understand the unintended cringing that comes with the mention of elasticized waisted pants but believe me when I tell you that it should absolutely be a consideration!
The day was bright and warm on the black top of the parking lot at the end of Lovelock Road which was the site of the #taco throwdown. It is also the location of famed #catalina offshore Products, who by now you are familiar with if you are an avid Cur8eur reader 😉 or a local San Diego foodie. Do not be fooled! A taco in itself may not be terribly filling but 25 or so is beyond comprehension.
There were seafood tacos; fried fish batter, ceviche, octopus. There were chicken pastor tacos, mole tacos, pork belly tacos. Tacos that tasted like summer and others that brought you into the fall. Thankfully there was also BEER and Viva Pops.
Secondly, SHARE!!! I started off with a taco at each booth because I could not wait to try them ALL. BIG MISTAKE. This is not the strategy for conquering a food event that draws the caliber of chefs that this event did. So remember, bring a partner and share a taco at every booth or go for one bite. I KNOW. Difficult choice but really necessary.
It can get messy eating taco after taco and rather gross just licking your fingers. I suggest towelettes. You know, those little wet disposable napkins that fit in your pocket. ***WARNING*** Use this at THE END of your taco consumption. They are covered in alcohol and will completely destroy your exceedingly delicious tasting experience.
