OUT | Happy Hour at Stake
Last Saturday I was itching to hit the beach with a forecast of 76º & sunny but I so didn’t want to battle the crowds who had the same idea but I was determined. I packed up the beach chairs, my kindle and the umbrella with hubs and set out to venture to a little beach I had visited in Coronado once years ago with my good friend Laurel.
To say the least, finding this little beach was a lot more adventure than I was prepared for. You see, when Laurel had brought me to this little cove, it was by boat. After 45 minutes of driving back and forth past Silver Strand Beach, I could see the little cove from the road with no sign of how to arrive from land. Finally, we figured out that the only way there was by parking on the ocean side and walking through the tunnel that was under the road leading directly to the coveted and EMPTY beach. We sat in awe for 3 hours taking in the beauty and solitude of the lapping waves. It was exactly what I needed.
By 4pm I was ready for a bite and a beverage. Chef Tim Kolanko from Blue Ridge Hospitality has asked me several times to pop into any one of his restaurants to check them out as I’ve only had the pleasure of eating his food at events. We decided on STAKE and what a great decision that was! We sat under the umbrella on the patio and were quite happy with our choices and the service. Kicking off the happy hour with a dozen oysters and a dirty martini was not a bad idea at all. Both were incredibly refreshing and to top it off, my dirty martini had two bleu cheese-filled olives ($7.50). If you are a whiskey person, definitely try STAKE’s single barrel. So good. We also ordered the filet mignon with chimichurri and potato skins with pork belly bits. There was nothing to regret about that.
So next time you are in Coronado, I definitely recommend the happy hour. You cannot beat the affordability either. Next on my STAKE adventures is the $69pp dinner that is a surf & turf special that includes your wine.
