Boredom is the number one killer of fitness goals. Many people run full throttle out of the gates with a fitness routine only to get bored with it within a few weeks. Growing bored with a routine not only halts your progress, it makes it harder for you to jump back on the wagon later. Constantly switching up your routine will not only keep you from being bored, it will also allow your body to continuously develop and grow stronger.

As the weather changes have some fun with your fitness routines and invite your partner or friends to exercise with you! Take a couples dance class as a fun way to burn calories with the one you love or gather up your friends and participate in a 5k! Exercising in a group effort not only holds you accountable, it also gives you the chance to catch up on each other’s lives!

Playing with children is also a creative way to stay active because not to many things can match the energy of a child! Go for a race around the neighborhood or gather up the kids on your block for a night of flag football! If you live in an area with a lot of dog owners, perhaps you can start a dog walking service to stay active while earning a little extra cash on the side! However you decide to stay fit, just remember to keep challenging yourself and never allow your routine to get old.

Eat a healthy diet

Being active means nothing if you have poor eating habits. What you eat is directly tied to how your body performs so it’s essential that you fill up with all the right foods! Not only will a good diet help you stay lean and fit, it also will boost your mental health and overall wellbeing! Healthy eating can help minimize depression symptoms, chronic pain and it can even help those that are trying to overcome addiction. A well-balanced diet should include plenty of water, leafy green vegetables like spinach, kale and collards, brown rice and lean meats and proteins such as beans and nuts. Avoid foods that are overly processed and packed with refined sugars and unhealthy fats. Those with chronic pain will especially want to stay away from such foods as they are known to cause painful flare-ups.
A nutrient rich diet will keep your brain sharp and boost your energy levels, which will improve your mood and make you feel better about yourself. Unhealthy foods tend to give you a spike in energy right after you eat, but shortly after you will crash and feel fatigued. Stay on top of your physical and mental health by saying no to junk food and only fueling your body with the good stuff.

Use this spring to break free from your regular routine and get creative! Being fit can be fun, as long as you keep it interesting! Start using these tips today and enjoy the journey of getting active and living your best life yet!
