From Farm to Bay Food & Wine | Living Coast Discovery Center

The shuttle ride from the freeway exit traversed through the very scenic expanse of wetlands with birds perched from place to place curiously peering at the vehicles that carried 500+ guests through their home. Upon arrival to the Living Coast Discovery Center, we were greeted by a handler holding a stunning rescued owl no bigger than a kitten. Andrew Spurgin, Chair of the Farm to Bay Food & Wine Classic along with Honorary Chair, Yolanda S. Walther-Meade, brought plenty of attention to one of the last salt-marsh wetlands on the Pacific Coast.

The Farm to Bay Food & Wine Classic lured guests in with promises of great food & drinks and there was certainly no shortage. With participants from familiar restaurants like Romesco’s, Via Lago, Plancha Baja Med, The Fish Market, Brooklyn Girl & more, the guests had plenty of choices to fulfill their fancy. Our favorite bite went to Executive Chef, Tommy Fraioli of Sea Rocket Bistro in North Park with his pork belly dish that incorporated flavors of lemon and jalapeno. (We may have gone back for more than a single tasting.) The Grant Grill’s Jeff Josenhans’ Scorpion Cocktail created a bottle neck of people waiting for his concoction and there was a rare sighting of mixologist Adam Stemmler of Blind Tiger Cocktails. This guy spreads the cocktail cheer across the country 95% of the year.

This much needed awareness event was sold out and brought many eyes to The Living Coast Discover Center which aims to maintain the life and health of San Diego’s native animals and plants at the marshland just off the freeway in Chula Vista. What a surprise to have found such an incredible place so close. Plan a visit today!
