Chef Steve Brown Takes Cosecha to Barrio Logan

Out of thin air, Chef Steve Brown appeared back in San Diego with a big win at the Kaboo Chef’s Roll Competition. Nearly a year later, this Imperial Beach native is making noise with his fine dining, multi-course, Japanese Wagyu beef dinners in the most unlikely of places.

Steve has brought his pop-up dinner concept to a little place in the blossoming Barrio Logan neighborhood and he’s not alone in his ventures. He is hitting a sweet spot with his unique 8 course + 8 speed course dinners.

Any given event day you can find guests roaming around the front entrance with a lost look on their faces. Guests who don’t realize you must enter through the back alley generally stand in awe of the activity and buzzing happening on the weekend on the few blocks near Logan Avenue that have seen a significant vibe change over the last few years.

The street is filled with brightly lit galleries, a brewery, coffee shops, music stores, and a couple casual eateries. Sure it still has that raw downtown feel to it, but it’s edgy cool rather than sketchy, scary and bold entrepreneurs, like Chef Steve Brown, are helping to mold the creative atmosphere.

 

The main restaurant and full bar on the Logan Avenue street frontage is the next venture. In the meantime, keep a look out for more of his pop-ups and chef collaborations. I hear there are some very big hitters hooking up to cook with him.
