As of today, Little Italy welcomes a new addition to the food-centric neighborhood. Fans of Chef Javier Plascencia have been waiting with bated breath for the long anticipated opening of Bracero Cocina de Raiz. The two story, modern-rustic restaurant designed by Bells & Whistles is an inviting open layout that combines communal seating with private tables on two levels at the corner of Beech & Kettner, just blocks from the Santa Fe depot. The distinctly masculine but understated elegance of the space paired with thought-provoking sculptural pieces  draws an incredibly inviting essence into the brand new, nearly 5000 sf. construction.

Chef Javier Plascencia is best known for his restaurants Romesco’s (Bonita), Mision 19 in Tijuana and Finca Altozano in Baja’s wine district, Valle de Guadalupe. San Diegans can now choose the central Little Italy location to sample flavors that are familiar within his other establishments without the lengthy trip across the border.

The modern Mexican flavors Chef Javier is so well known for are complimented by a delectable, tongue in cheek cocktail menu, artisan mezcales and Baja wines. The restaurant will be taking dinner reservations for parties of two and four for now but will expand the availability in the coming months. The open terrace bar on the second floor will be the coveted viewing area this summer. If you are looking for Javier… you can probably spot him in front of his favorite new toy; a massive, custom made Caja China grill designed by local artisan Gustaf Rooth.
