500,000 Meals for San Diego’s Hungry
Feeding San Diego
How do you secure 500k meals for the food insecure populous in San Diego County? With the help of the community. THAT’S HOW!
San Diego volunteers, local businesses, residents, restaurants, brewers and winemakers got together and created a fun Saturday event for foodies that could afford to take the time to enjoy great company, bid on some fabulous auction items, eat and drink from superb local purveyors all for the benefit of the food insecure, those who stress about where their next meal might come from.
1 in 5 children in San Diego are at risk of hunger.
400k+ individuals in our county struggle with providing food for themselves and/or family.
Feeding San Diego has created a streamlined approach to reducing food waste and feeding people that is unique to this chapter of Feeding America. Ways to get involved can be found on their website.
I was happy to be a judge for the event to pick the Surf & Turf themed Best Pairing for the day. It was a blast to see so many chef friends like very busy, fellow “judge” Hanis Cavin (Carnitas Snack Shack) giving back to the community. I had a great beef tartare from Chef Jason McLoed of Born & Raised, salmon crudo from Flower Child Del Mar, an AMAZING Filipino dish, Beef Mami (bulalo) with Shrimp Noodles from Chef Anthony Sinsay of JSix but the pairing from between Chef Jason Knibb of Nine-Ten and Latitude 33 blew my mind! The chemistry between the dish and the blond beer was stunning.
If you haven’t made it to this event, keep your eyes open for plenty of the other events throughout the year that support Feeding San Diego like the quarterly dinner at Bitter Brothers Brewing Company. Eating never felt so good.
