Beach & Country Guild Raises Big Bucks for United Cerebral Palsy, San Diego
41st Annual Día del Sol Turns Out a Large Crowd for the Annual Fashion Extravaganza
Each year a hard-working group of 40+ ladies gather and collaborate to create an event that draws hundreds to attend and volunteer for an annual ladies luncheon raising money for United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego. Día del Sol occurs each fall and showcases upcoming collections of the hottest designers at a different fabulous private estate in Rancho Santa Fe.
On Wednesday, October 13th, 300+ ladies dressed to the nines arrived via shuttles to the red carpet event at the Rancho Santa Fe estate of Walter and Sylvia Lim. Guests were escorted for a tour of the exquisite home with docents posted in every room to bring light to the special pieces and stories that accompanied each. Attendees exited the home through the french doors onto the immense terrace overlooking immaculately manicured gardens, reflection pool and massive ornate fountain reminiscent of any European chateau on the sunny, SoCal morning.
The well-coiffed crowd, champagne in hand, raced their heels through the silent auction items, shopped the designer trunk shows and sampled the delectable bites of culinary greatness. The event was then turned over to the courts… the tennis courts. Guests were directed out from under the blue skies and into the white gala tent. The impressive full size fashion runway was flanked by a sea of tables awaiting the fashionistas with heart. The seated luncheon was served by an army of volunteers. A live auction started the fun with boisterous bidding for spa getaways to world-reknown Rancho La Puerta and exotic trips to unforgettable locations like the Azores.
TV personality and Mistress of Ceremonies, Kimberly Hunt, greeted the ladies and announced the children’s fashion show sponsored by Nordstrom. The child models were well-styled, vibrant children with Cerebral Palsy, all with stories of a bright future. The applause did not cease after the children’s fashion show. Keynote Speaker, Rick Hohn from Assisted Technology Center, spoke about the struggles of and opportunities in store for those living with Cerebral Palsy. He stated first hand how he managed to become a shining example of the tools available to him and others via the advancement of technologies that allow him to communicate and function in his daily life. Rick’s message was an inspiring look into the future of this disease.
The afternoon was capped off with lights, music, designer couture and more champagne. The tent was filled with wish list whispers as models strutted down the catwalk in the latest collections from Kate Spade, Nicole Miller, Karen Millen, Tory Burch and Goga, Project Runway’s, Gordana.
“All the work that goes into the production of Dia del Sol is well worth the accomplished, satisfying feeling one gets from contributing to such a worthy cause. It still amazes me to see the finished product each year and fills my heart to know so many people support the mission of United Cerebral Palsy,” stated Marie Tahan Daniels of Caelum Marketing and 2010 Social Chair of Dia del Sol.
Beach & Country Guild’s final contribution numbers for the event had not yet been tallied at the time of publication but a representative stated that they felt Dia del Sol would be writing a sizable check to the San Diego Chapter of United Cerebral Palsy.
