Tacolandia 2015 took over El Pueblo de Los Angeles in downtown LA June 6th with over 80 crazy, creative taqueros competing for the best tacos in the western land. Curated by Bill Esparza, 4500+ taco-lovers crowded the plaza streets drooling over the plethora of taco interpretations. The day was filled with taco greats from Ensenada (La Guerrerense) and Valle de Guadalupe (Corazon de Tierra) through San Diego (Bull Taco & Comun Kitchen) but overwhelmingly, throughout the megalopolis of Los Angeles.
Weather was perfect, tequila and margaritas were plentiful and the entertainment was lively… in front of the stage. Unfortunately, it was difficult to enjoy the entertainment while wandering throughout the event with crackling speakers but in the grand scheme of things; NOT A DEAL BREAKER. The 6 full tacos I was able to consume were great. All others were small bites of my hubby’s choices. It was fun to see our local San Diego represented by the Oceanside Bull Taco team, Puesto (People Choice Award Winners) and East Village’s Comun Kitchen peeps. Foodie fiends probably recognized plenty of faces at the event like Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Sabina Bandera of La Guerrerense and Diego Hernandez of Corazon de Tierra, who reportedly will be opening a new restaurant concept in LA, +52, fall 2015.
It was a best bites kind of weekend. Keep an eye out for 2016 where the competition will surely be even tastier than 2015!
