I went to the Laugh In gala last year at Anthology. It was my first time going to any of their charity events. It was so much fun and we had a great time. It was wonderful knowing that with as much as we enjoyed ourselves, it all was for a great cause.

Spectacular event. Was so much fun. The evening as certainly one of top quality entertainment and inspiration. To see powerhouse local celebs & good friends such as Danitza Villanueva, Yolanda S. Walther-Meade and Lee Ann Kim jump into action to raise funds AND awareness for the programs and work done by the Malashock organization was heart-warming. All the dancers were great and the judges were perfect! Monique Marvez with her funny gal, tv personality Mary Murphy kept the laughter rolling. Thank you Malashock for creating a great set of memories.

Was great to see the live stream of the Freedom Awards. You have a wonderful partner in Halogen TV. Never heard of them until this event. I really enjoyed the children singing the freedom song with Jason Mraz. It was very moving to see the Agape Choir. Thanks for offering it to the world.

FELICIDADES!!! It is a pleasure to have worked so closely with you both throughout the years on such an important mission that affects not only our immediate area but the entire region as a whole. You have been beacons of inspiration for showing the impact that we can have on our environment and communities. You set the bar high for the rest of us, pushing us upward toward great achievement.
Thank you for the dedication you have had for not only the SDNHM but throughout the region in your many causes on both sides of the border. It is an honor to Chair this event, honoring your legacy.

Congrats to all the lucky ones who won the Live Auction items benefiting the San Diego Natural History Museum. Amazing trips and experiences were on this years docket and boy were there some doozies.

I love your ability to tell it like you hear it in your own head Tami because we have all been involved in scenarios of the same sort that truly just make our skin crawl. Thanks for the reminder that we perception is reality and that especially when working within the realm of the social good… accountability is at the HEIGHT of a charity’s mission for the community recipients AND the donors.

I think this is an interesting comment considering that their is honest assessment of personal blame in this post. If you work in non-profit, which is who these posts are aimed at, dear incognito, you would understand that this is a continuous issue that comes up. Clear communication and realistic expectations to and from volunteers consistently is a downfall of organizations across the country.
I also find it interesting that you aim your answer mistakenly at the author rather than the actual person who had the experience. This type of communication is precisely the example of what we as non-profit development teams encounter regularly. I am sure we could instead have Tami write the organization name and names of the individuals and let them publicly drag a good meaning organization through banter over an error in judgement on how adults should communicate when asking for favors from volunteers you either know or are hoping will become brand ambassadors. As the saying goes, there are 3 sides to every story.
The point for our audience to hear is listen to your volunteers.What is the amount of commitment you ask of a volunteer or new member? What is their level of attachment? Are they there to explore a new group, network, become potential donor, add a few hours of service or CHAIR the whole kit and caboodle?
Are you respectful of your own time and theirs? Have you communicated with all your volunteers in a timely consistent manner? Have you been honest with them about your needs throughout the process? Your teams and your blood pressure will be very thankful when this type of stress is avoided.
You will earn much more respect from your volunteers and colleagues by considering these points.
Good Luck to yourself. We appreciate your feedback and hope you can respond and contribute about the subject matter that development teams deal with day in and day out — blame is usually not one of them but communication certainly is when you are wearing many different hats.

We had a very interesting comment back this morning and I thank the visitor for their response. It is quite an emotional response so I can only assume that the responder who refuses to be known is probably involved. Tami and I have decided it would NOT be in the best interest to name this person because the possibility that the name the organization might be implied. The group is made up of much more substance than perhaps this one scenario and has higher goals to think about. The organization is a fledgling chapter of a networking awareness group, not an event production company. Please be assured that the organization in no way is responsible for the lack of tact that has been displayed. If there was a true concern for a non-profit organization out there which was misrepresenting itself to donors in the name of social good, rest assured we would then find it pertinent to name the organization.
*To the person who wrote the response: I am sorry this blog post was such an agitation in your day. The post does admit blame intentionally in the quote.The real barrier here for many organizations is a choice to communicate freely so that progress is made for the true goal. The word sabotage is strong. Use it wisely. The organization is by no means hurt by our restraint in naming it. We have gone to great lengths to NOT taint this very helpful, active international group. As with many situations, a brief talk between adults probably would have cleared many things up in the early stages. Good Luck to you.

Marie- Thanks for helping us get the word out! We are SO CLOSE to curing this horrible disease…and as many people know, CF has been making HUGH headlines lately with breakthrough treatments and medications. Liam is ALIVE today because of the CF Foundation – We can’t wait to CELEBRATE the cure together!

No follow up pictures will be posted of this event for the community. The planner for the event at has just informed us that they have only one media outlet given access because it is a closed, private event. I hope this isn’t entirely true, that such bloggers like Margo Schwab and local community papers like the RSF Review are also ousted. These outlets bring the community in and do a world of good for the organizations.

I just CAN’T help it. I love this place. The Pearl has got just such a cool vibe without feeling pretentious. The wait staff is casual but professional and the design just invites you to lounge around with a cocktail a la ‘Mad Men’.
Food is fab and is the summertime movie and a swim. Check it out.

Okay… We went here for Opening night and I HAVE TO TELL YOU… The decor is awesome. Very Eclectic, swanky and chic casual as only California can handle. I love what Brian Malarkey has done in this space. He has inspired a sleepy Carmel Valley to up the ante when it comes to attractions in North County San Diego. Well Done!
Thank you for breathing a little excitement and pizazz back into the area.

My wife and I had the luck and pleasure to enjoy some of Jonathan’s brilliance at Viaje earlier this year. This is truly saddening and tragic news. Whoever perpetuated this heinous act needs to be brought to justice!

  I fear in Rosarito justice is hidden away very well for cases such as these. It was very nice to recently see one of Jonatan’s wishes come true. He brought together the Chefs of Rosarito to discuss the founding of the Association of Chefs. It has come to fruition and together the chefs have been able to bring more attention to the growing food scene in the area.
  His wish was to make people aware that there was a reason to stop and enjoy dining options in Rosarito… not just pass through on the way to Ensenada or Valle de Guadalupe. Cheers!
