81st Annual Candlelight Ball for Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla
The spectacular Grande Del Mar will be host to the 81st Annual Candlelight Ball, a truly glamorous event. The long-standing commitment of the philanthropic community will once again gather in all their finery to celebrate and raise funds for the very worthy beneficiary, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. Philanthropist, national socialite & media heiress, Betty Knight Scripps, General Chairman of the Candlelight Ball, will continue in her 8th consecutive year as grande dame of the affair.
Scripps Health is a $1.7 billion, nonprofit, community-based health care system in San Diego, Calif. Scripps treats nearly 500,000 patients annually through the dedication of more than 2,600 affiliated physicians and 11,000 employees across five hospital campuses, an ambulatory care network of clinics, physicians’ offices, outpatient centers and home health care services.
The Scripps legacy of providing health care services in San Diego originated in 1924, when philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps founded Scripps Memorial Hospital and Scripps Metabolic Clinic in La Jolla, California.

Recognized as the first Magnet hospital in San Diego for excellence in patient care, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla is a 422-bed acute-care facility. Scripps La Jolla offers a wide range of medical and surgical services, including a regional trauma center; 24-hour emergency services; intensive care; interventional cardiology and radiology; radiation oncology; cardiothoracic and orthopedic services; neurology; ophthalmology; and women’s health services. Specialty services and programs located on the campus include the Regional Cardiac Arrhythmia Center; Scripps Mericos Eye Institute; Scripps McDonald Center for Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Treatment; Whittier Institute for Diabetes; Scripps Center for Executive Health; Gamma Knife Center of San Diego; and Scripps Polster Breast Care Center.
