Baja Chefs Family Dinner Wins Over Beer Lovers
There’s a brewery in town and it’s making waves in the community with their beer and their commitment to social good. Bitter Brothers Brewing Company, a one year old, craft brewery in the Bay Ho neighborhood on Morena, has some lofty goals for 2017 and their strategy is golden.
Brewery owners Bill Warnke and Monica Andresen want to donate 20,000 meals to Feeding San Diego in 2017 and they are doing it with a little help from their friends. Each quarter, they organize a “Family Dinner” where guest chefs create a 6 course feast with each dish pairing with one of the brewery’s beers. So far the dinners are a big hit!
The 60 seat, spring dinner was a show of 6 Baja chefs who shared their culinary talents with inspiration from the beers they chose from Bitter Brothers’ selection. The lineup of these chefs was so mouth-watering that the event sold out in three days and never made it to public sale. Only the Bitter Brothers insider members were able to receive the offer before the event sales page was shut down. (If you want to attend these, perhaps you should sign up for their newsletter for special invitations.)
With famed chefs from Tijuana to Valle de Guadalupe like Drew Deckman (Deckman’s, Concha de Piedra) and Martin San Roman (Dobson’s Pedreval, Alximia) alone, the dinner was poised to be something special. With the addition of some of Baja’s rising stars, Ruffo Ibarra (Oryx Capital), Adria Marina (Don Ramen, Azarosa Cafe, Oso Campos (Tras Horizonte) and Karla Navarro (chef consultant), the event was a perfect mix of classic and contemporary Mexican cuisine.
The NEXT family dinner will be held in July. The lineup of chefs has not been announced yet. Check out their Facebook page for updates on their events and beer releases. I hear they have some pretty cool things coming up for the summer.
