On Tuesday, November 27th, Newt Gingrich and wife, Callista, made a stopover in San Diego to promote The American Legacy Book Tour. It was a limited audience for the appearance because the signing venue was held at the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot (MCRD) in Point Loma. The event took place for just two hours in the middle of the day, 11am – 1pm. We observed the crowd of four people in line and quickly assessed that the event coordinator and public relations department didn’t quite think this one through.
The majority of service members on base at the MCRD are new recruits which translates into YOUNG people who may not have yet developed a passionate grasp onto the politics of our great country. During the lunch hours, most likely, not many of these young men and women are thinking of flocking to a book signing of a political figure. The majority of the service men and women arrived to the Military Exchange (mall in layman’s terms) in the hunt for Christmas shopping deals but the one at the MCRD is known to be a bit small.
Planning! Planning! Planning! This is something Mr. Gingrich is certainly familiar with but in this arena, there was a glitch in the system.
On the style front… Callista Gingrich is a beautiful woman in person and was perfectly coiffed for the sunny San Diego afternoon. Newt… well, he is a man in a suit. Thank goodness for the creativity women get to have in their style each day.
